Flinders Ranges, SA

Our two nights at Wilpena Pound Resort was marked by breathtaking landscapes and unique natural features.

After an early morning 5:30am pre-sunrise start our focus was on capturing the early morning light illuminating the rugged Razorback Range and foreground valleys. The golden hues of sunrise painted the landscape, offering an ideal opportunity for some stunning shots. The diversity of flora and fauna, including ancient gum trees and vibrant desert wildflowers provided abundant subjects for wideangle and close-up photography. We encountered hundreds of kangaroos and various bird species which enhanced the storytelling aspect of the photographs.

As the day progressed, the shifting shadows added depth and texture to the rocky formations, allowing for some dynamic compositions. The afternoon centred around exploring lesser-known trails and vantage points in the Landrover which led to the discovery of hidden gorges and serene waterholes.

Later that afternoon we headed to one of the surrounding hilltops to capture more golden hues of the sunset and made some new friends…

Overall, the combination of dramatic scenery, rich biodiversity and changing light conditions created a rewarding photographic adventure in the Flinders Ranges, with Wilpena Pound Resort serving as a comfortable base for each day’s exploration.
